Just a couple of points.

Firstly, could St. Catherine be a reference to the saint of Siena, who was quite a mover and shaker in the Church of her time and not shy about telling Truth to power?

Secondly, is the war reference, of the fighting being strong, in the last verse, possibly about that ultimate of wars, that cosmic one between God and Satan?
Michael Leahyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15044897013849386271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5215676166917133231.post-18252274224874115652014-12-30T19:32:25.922-08:002014-12-30T19:32:25.922-08:00Barbara, I'm glad you found my post helpful! I believe the Hebrews verses refer to those who are hardened and unrepentant. Such people feel no sorrow for sin or fear of God. If you are troubled by your past mistakes that is an indication that the Holy Spirit has not left you! We all backslide into sin from time to time, sometimes grievously, but God is always ready to welcome us back if we return to him with sincerity and confess our sins. I am an Episcopal priest. If you were one of my parishioners, I would offer you the sacrament of reconciliation. I see that you are from the UK. My suggestion to you is that you find a discreet and understanding priest in the Church of England/ Church of Wales and make an appointment to confess your sins with him/her. One of the great privileges God has given me as a priest, is to absolve the penitent of their sins. Jesus told his disciples whatever they loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven. He left them with the authority to forgive people their sins and bring them into reconciliation with him. If you have confessed your sins to God, he has forgiven you. It sounds like you can use some extra assurance though. That is where meeting with a priest may be of help to you. I also would recommend seeing a mental health professional about anxiety. There is no shame in that, and perhaps they can help you.
God Bless,
Fr. As a songwriter myself I greatly appreciated your views on Ring them bells and would appreciate your views on Hebrews 4 ,4-6 . Hope to hear from you , God Bless , Barbara .Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5215676166917133231.post-48078233861274255252014-02-10T07:31:29.254-08:002014-02-10T07:31:29.254-08:00Excellent analysis (I hate to use such a word upon...Excellent analysis (I hate to use such a word upon a work of art) of what may be my favorite song by Bob Dylan. I had perceived many of the same allusions, but some I hadn't like the possible Dickens allusions. I have a blog in which I've discussed many of Dylan's songs, but I don't think I did "Ring Them Bells Yet." Bryan @ manifestpropensity.wordpress.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
